New Requirements for Coaches to complete Professional Development to Maintain Certification
Free Clinics - click to see belowIt is important that all coaches understand the changes that are coming to the requirements for coaching, not only at your current age group and level but for all levels within the sport.
The days of just taking your level and coach for the next 10 years are gone. Ringette Canada has implemented a continuous development program that requires coaches to earn credits to maintain their coaching level. For example, a coach at the 16AA level must be Competitive Certified. To maintain thier status, they must earn 20 credits over 5 years to keep their level.
To do so they will have coached for 5 years (5 points), taken a first aid course (3 points), re-done thier Making Ethical Decisions Exam (5 points as it was more than 5 years old), taken the Making Head Way in Sport (concussions on-line 5 pts) and Respect in Sport on-line (2 points). Total 21 points.
This goes for all coaches on your TRF.
Ontario Ringette and Ringette Canada have a lot of helpful information on-line to assist you in knowing what is required, how to go about getting points and related information.
It is important that you know what is required of you to keep your status and the association is looking at creating developmental opportunities to help you with accumulating points but as you can see from my case, it does not really take much to maintain your level.
